Created May 2020
The Information Point commenced in June 2019 and is based in the Ophthalmology Department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, one morning a fortnight.
Our volunteers chat to patients who are waiting for appointments and offer information about the services and support in the community that are available for people with visual impairments. Volunteers also support the work of the Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) by ensuring that patients and their families are aware of the practical and emotional support that the ECLO provides.
Since the service started, our volunteers have provided over 150 hours of support. Sight Loss Shropshire plans to expand the service to provide additional coverage both at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, subject to volunteer numbers.
Feedback from patients and their families has been very positive as many of them were unaware of the range of support available.
