Reviewed February 2021

Sight Loss Shropshire relies heavily on local volunteers to deliver its services.  We have different roles available dependent on your skills, what you would like to do and how much time you can offer.

Our volunteers support our work within the community and, whether they are chatting to people at our Information Point or helping to organise activities for one of our peer support groups, they make a real difference to the lives of visually impaired people.

Potential volunteers will need to complete an application form and provide two referees.  For some roles, a DBS check is required.

For more information, please contact us by telephone on 01743 250808 or by email to sightlossshropshire@shropshire.gov.uk

Information Point

Our Information Point volunteers are based in the Ophthalmology Department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, one morning a fortnight.  They chat to patients who are waiting for appointments and offer information about the services and support in the community that are available for people with visual impairments.

Peer Support Groups

We have a number of affiliated Peer Support Groups across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.  Most groups are run by a small committee of volunteers who arrange the programme of activities, organise the meetings and other social events, and provide a welcoming environment where members can socialise.
