Each year at the end of January, Sight Loss Shropshire holds a ‘Winter’s Day Out’ to which all visually impaired people in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are welcome. The event is normally held at the Football Stadium, Shrewsbury.
200 or so manage to come each year. Coffee is served on arrival followed by a morning entertainment, often something musical, and then a buffet lunch is served. The afternoon starts with a second entertainment, which might be a local celebrity with an interesting topic or tales to tell!
Tickets for the event are numbered and the day ends with a raffle and tea.
Sight Loss Shropshire also holds other Special Events at other times of the year. These have included trips on the Bridgnorth to Bewdley Severn Valley Railway, visits to Hodnet Gardens, and a cruise on the SS Balmoral at Llandudno.
A week-long Annual Holiday is organised in the late summer or early autumn – this years holiday (2013) is at The Cliffden Hotel, Teignmouth, South Devon. The hotel caters for visually impaired guests and has facilities for guide dogs.
Details for all these events are advertised on the local Talking Newspapers.
