Community Ophthalmology Services

Community Ophthalmology Services are delivered from a variety of providers, including SaTH, Community Health & Eyecare Limited, and community optometrists.  SaTH provides community outreach clinics and care at Euston House.  The Practice provides consultant led ophthalmology services from a variety of locations across the county.  The community optometrists provide a range of optometry schemes that have been commissioned by the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) for Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.  These schemes enable patients to receive treatment from local, trained and accredited  optometrists, where appropriate, instead of having to attend either Royal Shrewsbury or Princess Royal Hospital.  Brief details of these schemes are available here.

Shropshire Local Optical Committee

The Committee represents the interests of Optometrists and Contractors who provide general ophthalmic services under a contract for the NHS.  The Committee advises the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) for Shropshire and Staffordshire on matters that affect Optometrists and make suggestions on how ophthalmic services could be improved.  The Committee is also involved in promoting the role of community optometry in enhancing eye care services and making more effective use of primary and secondary care resources.
